[Sports Today reporter Song Oh-jung] Veteran actor Son Chang-min recounted a striking anecdote that underscored just how famous he was at the peak of his career.
Son sat down for MBN’s ‘Kim Ju‑ha’s Day & Night,’ which aired on April 4.
He transitioned from child roles to adult acting with the 1987 drama The Tree Where Love Blooms. At the height of his popularity he shot so many commercials that he joked, \”I was on TV whenever I turned it on.\”
He singled out one snack commercial as particularly memorable. In the spot, after climbing what seems like an endless flight of stairs to reach the top and growing exhausted, a young girl feeds him a snack.

After filming the commercial, Son said his home phone rang. \”Someone called and said, ‘I’m so‑and‑so — I kept my promise. I’ll come by and tell you in person,’\” he recalled. The visitor arrived carrying a case of beer.
The man who came turned out to be the older brother of the little girl in the ad. Years earlier he had told Son, \”You’re handsome. Become an actor. When you make it, come find me.\” Having become an actor himself, he came back to keep that promise.
As they talked, they realized the visitor was actor Lee Byung‑hun.
