[Sports Today reporter Song Oh-jung] Project Hail Mary is maintaining strong box-office momentum thanks to growing word of mouth.
According to the country’s Integrated Cinema Ticketing Network, Project Hail Mary rose to No. 1 on the daily box office on April 3 and claimed the top spot overall.
The film dethroned the buzzy The Man Who Lives with the King, ending that movie’s roughly 51-day reign at No. 1.
The Ryan Gosling–led picture drew significant attention in Korea before its release, with audiences familiar with his work in La La Land, Barbie and The Gray Man. Since opening, it has continued to build on steady word-of-mouth.
Project Hail Mary centers on Grace (Ryan Gosling), who wakes up alone in deep space with no memory and must undertake a final mission to save humanity from an extinction-level threat. The film is now playing in theaters nationwide.
