Hollywood icons Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway are set to meet South Korean audiences, with Streep making her first-ever trip to the country. Widely admired for both her acting and her outspoken stances on social and political issues, Streep’s visit has attracted significant attention.
The two actresses are scheduled to arrive in South Korea on April 8 ahead of the local release of The Devil Wears Prada 2 on April 29. The sequel will premiere in South Korea before anywhere else in the world.
While in Seoul they will attend press conferences and other promotional events. They are also slated to appear on cable network tvN’s You Quiz on the Block during April.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is the follow-up to the 2006 hit The Devil Wears Prada, which grossed more than $326 million worldwide. Streep and Hathaway—who originally played the fashion magazine editor and her assistant—reteam to continue the story.
Streep is expected to discuss the film and meet South Korean fans during her visit. Since her 1977 debut, she has starred in numerous films regarded as classics of world cinema, including The Deer Hunter, Kramer vs. Kramer, Out of Africa, The Bridges of Madison County and The Post. She has also been praised for defending creative freedom and speaking out against political repression and social discrimination.
The fact that Streep will visit South Korea in person to promote The Devil Wears Prada 2 has amplified interest in the film. Anne Hathaway previously visited South Korea in 2018 for a cosmetics promotion.
