Nana, the former After School member turned actress, has opted not to appear as a witness at the trial of the man accused of breaking into her home, identified only as A.
According to Star News on March 21, Nana’s mother, identified as Ms. Shin, filed a notice of non-appearance as a witness in A’s robbery and assault case at the Namyangju branch of the Uijeongbu District Court on March 5. Nana filed the same notice alongside her, marking the second such filing since February.
Last November, Nana and her mother overpowered A, a man in his 30s who had broken into their home in the Acheon-dong neighborhood of Guri, reportedly armed with a weapon. After a struggle, they handed him over to police. Nana’s mother was injured during the altercation and received hospital treatment.
At his first hearing in January, A admitted he had used a ladder to gain entry but said the balcony window was open. He maintained he entered only to steal and did not intend to commit a violent robbery.
Contradicting reports that labeled him an “armed robber,” A also claimed he had not originally brought a weapon and said he did not know the residence belonged to Nana. He later countersued, accusing Nana of attempted murder and aggravated injury and alleging she wounded him with a weapon.
Police, however, concluded that Nana acted in self-defense and declined to indict. Nana subsequently filed an additional complaint against A for false accusation.
At the time, Nana’s agency said it would pursue all available civil and criminal remedies to hold the alleged attacker accountable for what it called “heinous and inhumane” conduct, and vowed to make no concessions in protecting the victim’s safety and reputation.
