Bae Seul-ki, long celebrated as a retro-dance icon, married YouTuber Shim Ri-seop—two years her junior—in 2020.

A self-described non-marrier, Bae reportedly turned down his proposals three times. After getting to know him, however, she changed her mind; the couple began dating and were married just two months later.

While enjoying newlywed life, Bae was cast in the 2021 SBS drama Amor Fati – Love Now. Watching playback of her scenes, she was surprised by her on-screen appearance.

She realized she had gained 11 kg (about 24.3 lb) amid married bliss. Determined to change, Bae combined diet and exercise and lost 8 kg (about 17.6 lb) in 40 days.

After wrapping the project, she later admitted she had climbed past 60 kg (about 132 lb) after celebrating with food. Observers noted she looked less “overweight” than simply healthier and more robust.

Following a two-year hiatus, Bae returned last year in two projects, Oasis and Happy Battle. In March—four years into her marriage—she and her husband announced they are expecting a child, drawing warm congratulations from colleagues and fans.

Bae said she was so frightened early in the pregnancy that she cried during a hospital visit. Even after reaching a more stable phase, unexpected issues have led to occasional follow-up visits. Fans and peers are wishing her a healthy remainder of the pregnancy and a safe delivery.
