[Sports Today reporter Lim Si-ryeong] SBS’s Friday–Saturday drama ‘Shin I-rang Law Office’ has been officially invited as a special screening selection in KOCCA on Screen@Udine at the 28th Far East Film Festival in Udine, Italy, taking place in April.
The Far East Film Festival in Udine is one of Europe’s largest showcases for Asian content, drawing industry insiders and audiences eager to engage with the power of Asian storytelling. This year, to deepen global exchanges around K-dramas, the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) launched a dedicated section, “KOCCA on Screen@Udine.” ‘Shin I-rang Law Office,’ produced through KOCCA’s broadcast and video content production support, was chosen as the inaugural title.
The selection underscores the series’ creative originality and its distinctly Korean sensibility — anchored by Yoo Yeon-seok’s riveting, “possessed” performance — and signals that those qualities resonate beyond Korea. Yoo portrays Shin I-rang, a lawyer possessed by spirits who helps the wronged dead find peace; his shifts between possession and reality deliver intense immersion. The festival screening is expected to introduce local audiences to the subtlety and range of contemporary K-actors.
‘Shin I-rang Law Office’ is a fantasy courtroom drama that pits Shin I-rang, who resolves the grudges of the deceased, against Han Na-hyun (Esom), a cool, elite lawyer who will do whatever it takes to win. Since its premiere on Friday the 13th, viewers have responded enthusiastically to the show’s inventive premise — blending courtroom procedural with supernatural backstories — and to the affable exploits of its “reluctant hero,” Shin I-rang. The series reached a peak rating of 11.3%, surpassing double-digit viewership after just two episodes and ranking first among mini-series airing in the same time slot and among Friday–Saturday dramas.
During the festival, key episodes of ‘Shin I-rang Law Office’ will be screened on a large local screen. Audiences can expect Yoo Yeon-seok’s concentrated performance as he navigates possession and reality, along with the show’s genre-driven thrills. The production team commented, “That ‘Shin I-rang Law Office’ — which naturally fuses Korean emotional nuance with fantasy elements — has been recognized on the international stage is largely due to Yoo Yeon-seok’s command of the role and his expressive emotional range. We hope the series delivers resonance and feeling not only to domestic viewers but also to global audiences.”
Meanwhile, SBS’s high-profile Friday–Saturday drama ‘Shin I-rang Law Office’ airs every Friday and Saturday at 9:50 p.m. KST.
