Why Park Jung-min Prefers Chemistry Over Connections in Casting Decisions?

Daniel Kim Views

Actor Park Jung-min candidly opened up about his repeated collaborations with acclaimed director Ryu Seung-wan.

In a recent appearance on the YouTube channel “Chungju Man” on the 10th, Park engaged in an insightful conversation with the host. When asked about the casting process, Park revealed, “This marks my third feature film with Director Ryu, and we’ve also worked together on a short film prior to that,” shedding light on their professional relationship.

Addressing the importance of industry connections, Park shook his head, offering a more nuanced perspective. “It’s less about connections and more about synergy,” he explained. “There’s a mutual understanding, a sense that we ‘click’ creatively. Our collaboration has evolved naturally over time.”

In a moment of levity, Park quipped, “The pay can be a bit low, and sometimes I even work for free,” eliciting laughter from those present. He quickly clarified, “There have been instances where I’ve joined projects simply for the opportunity to collaborate,” emphasizing the jest in his self-deprecating humor.

Park also shared some on-set challenges, particularly his struggle with acrophobia. “The most daunting experience was dealing with my fear of heights,” he recounted. “I had to scale a structure – not even a proper ladder – from the fourth to the fifth floor on the exterior of a building.” He added with a chuckle, “It wasn’t as high as it sounds, but don’t picture it like a scene from Mission: Impossible.”

Park’s candid discussion highlighted that casting decisions often hinge on on-set chemistry and mutual trust rather than mere contractual terms. He suggested that the foundation of their repeated collaborations lies in the shared experiences and trust built over time, rather than financial calculations.

As Park Jung-min continues to diversify his portfolio with various projects and content, he remains committed to his unique trajectory in the acting world, consistently engaging with his audience.
