Veteran actor Kim Byung-se, who had been absent from the spotlight for some time, has recently resurfaced with news of his life changes. The 61-year-old star has settled in the United States after tying the knot with a South Korean entrepreneur 15 years his junior. In a candid YouTube video on his personal channel, Kim finally addressed the curiosity surrounding his extended hiatus, detailing the circumstances that led to his marriage and relocation. His gradual departure from the Korean entertainment scene, it turns out, was intricately linked to these personal developments.

On February 5, Kim took to his YouTube channel to share a revealing update with his fans. In the video, he pinpointed 2018 as a pivotal year that altered the course of his life. The unexpected passing of his mother, who had been residing in the U.S., triggered a profound shift in his perspective and priorities.

At the time of his mother’s death, Kim was in the midst of filming the MBC drama “Rich Man’s Son,” which prevented him from attending her funeral. It wasn’t until October of that year, after wrapping up the project, that he was able to travel to the U.S. and pay his respects at her grave.

This poignant visit unexpectedly paved the way for a new chapter in Kim’s life. During a dinner with friends in the States, he jokingly broached the subject of marriage, quipping, “At this point, I’d need someone to set me up.” To his surprise, the very next day, he received a call about a potential match. Despite his imminent return to Korea, Kim decided to honor the blind date out of courtesy.

Recounting their first encounter, Kim described a moment of cinematic proportions. As he waited at the agreed location, the door opened to reveal his future wife, and he was immediately struck by her presence. “It was as if she was surrounded by a halo,” Kim recalled, emphasizing that his reaction went beyond mere excitement – it was an intuitive recognition. This feeling lingered long after his return to Korea, prompting him to fly back to the U.S. just three weeks later.

Following their second meeting, the relationship progressed at a whirlwind pace. Kim proposed a mere 90 days after their initial encounter, driven by a gut feeling that it was now or never. With his wife’s acceptance, the couple embarked on their new life together in the United States.

Kim has since obtained permanent residency in the U.S., a decision influenced by his wife’s entrepreneurial commitments. He explained that her business requires a more stable schedule, while his acting career often demands flexibility. This dynamic made settling in the U.S. the most practical choice for their relationship, inevitably leading to fewer appearances on Korean television.

Addressing his reduced presence in the entertainment industry, Kim was refreshingly honest. While admitting to occasional pangs of nostalgia for his more active years on screen, he insisted that he doesn’t view it as a burden. He revealed that he’s participated in several auditions in the U.S. and remains open to projects in Korea should the right opportunity arise. His stance is clear: he’s ready for new challenges, regardless of their geographical origin.

Kim Byung-se, born in 1962, made his acting debut in the 1993 film “Western Avenue.” He went on to establish himself as a respected actor through notable roles in popular dramas such as “Hur Jun,” “Empress Myeongseong,” “All In,” and “Dr. Jin.” In a move to stay connected with his fan base, Kim recently launched his YouTube channel, “Byung-se World,” where he regularly shares updates and insights into his life.

What initially appeared to be Kim Byung-se’s disappearance from the entertainment scene has been revealed as a conscious life choice rather than retirement. Despite the significant changes brought about by his marriage and relocation, Kim remains open to future acting opportunities. As he continues to navigate this new phase of his life, fans and industry watchers alike are keenly anticipating how and when Kim Byung-se might make his return to the screen.
