Ready in 8 minutes! How to Cook Rice in the Microwave If you live alone and find yourself with no leftovers and suddenly need rice,
cooking it can feel like a real headache.
Luckily, your microwave is a secret lifesaver. With just a microwave, you can have steaming, freshly cooked rice in no time.
No need for store-bought microwave rice—here’s a simple way to make plain rice at home using your microwave.

What you’ll need Water, 100 g of rice (about 1/2 cup or 3.5 oz), a microwave-safe rice bowl, and two microwave-safe plates! Use a wide bowl
so the rice won’t boil over in the microwave.

# How to measure 100 g
A measuring cup is handy, but if you don’t have one, a small cup or half a coffee mug works well. You can also use about 2/3 of a paper cup—close enough for one serving.

# How to add water
Rinse the rice about three times, then soak it for at least 10 minutes. Soaking isn’t mandatory, but it makes the rice softer and tastier. For water, fill until it reaches the first knuckle of your little finger above the rice level.

# How to cook
Before microwaving, place a plate under the bowl and another plate over it.

For a 700W microwave, heat the rice for 4 minutes. Let it rest for 1 minute, then microwave again for 3 minutes. Let it rest for another minute—and you’re done.

The microwave will be full of steam—so satisfying.

Ta-da—glossy, steaming rice ready in just 8 minutes!

Dig in right away—it’s delicious plain.

Freshly cooked rice is so good that even wrapping it in a sheet of nori (seaweed) makes it next-level.
