Lee Man-gi breathed in the salty sea air of Jindo.
On May 9, KBS1’s ‘Dongne Hanbawi’ featured Lee Man-gi sampling an indulgent spread of abalone dishes from Jindo.
The restaurant, tucked near Uldolmok, farms its own abalone. The owner is a 25-year aquaculture veteran who’s also raised seaweed and octopus—a true man of the sea. He says his wife’s cooking is excellent, and after neighbors urged them on, they opened the abalone restaurant alongside the farm. Because they raise the abalone themselves, the freshness keeps diners coming back.
Lee Man-gi tried abalone sashimi, butter-grilled abalone, and chilled abalone soup. “It’s delightfully chewy,” he said. “You can taste the Jindo sea in every bite.” Narrator Kang Bu-ja noted that Jindo abalone, forged by strong currents, has firm flesh and a deep, rich flavor.
