[Point Economy] Gyeongnam Information University is stirring up culinary creativity with a recipe contest showcasing Busan’s local specialties, aiming to uncover innovative startup ideas rooted in regional ingredients.
The university’s RISE Business Group announced on the 10th that they’ve kicked off the mouthwatering ‘Busan Local Food Recipe Contest.’ This delicious competition is all about rediscovering the value of Busan’s agricultural and marine treasures while exploring practical recipe development and potential for commercialization.
This isn’t your average cooking showdown – contestants are being judged on their clever use of local ingredients, creative flair, and overall dish perfection.
The contest is heating up with two sizzling categories: main dishes and desserts. The judging panel? A star-studded lineup of culinary experts, including local Michelin-starred restaurant owners, luxury hotel head chefs, and Korea’s top pastry wizards. Talk about raising the bar!
In the main dish category, Lee Da-eun took home the grand prize with her show-stopping ‘Octopus Dish featuring Busan Gijang Seaweed and Garlic, paired with Creamy Mashed Potatoes.’ Chun Ha-na snagged the excellence award for her innovative ‘Dessert Starring Busan Gijang Seaweed and Pear,’ while Kim Dong-yeon earned the encouragement award for his mouthwatering ‘Strawberry Tart with a Busan Gijang Seaweed Twist.’
The dessert category saw Bae Hyun-jung and Kwon Na-yoon’s team clinch the grand prize with their Instagram-worthy ‘Tigre-Shaped Bread Infused with Mackerel and Fish Cake.’ Chun Ha-na’s ‘Busan Gijang Seaweed and Pear Dessert’ secured the excellence award, and Kim Dong-yeon’s ‘Strawberry Tart with Busan Gijang Seaweed’ earned another encouragement award.
The judges were blown away, gushing, “We’re totally impressed by how these culinary wizards married Busan’s local ingredients with cutting-edge cooking techniques. Many entries not only nailed the recipe game but also showed serious potential for launching successful food businesses!”
Lim Jun-woo, Vice President of Industry-Academic Cooperation at Gyeongnam Information University, couldn’t contain his excitement: “This contest was a fantastic platform for transforming local ingredients into trendsetting culinary creations. We’re committed to bridging the gap between our university’s educational prowess, local food culture, and the restaurant industry. Our goal? To spark a wave of entrepreneurship and breathe new life into the local economy!”
