[Sports Seoul | Reporter Pyo Kwonhyang] The actors who have taken on the title role in the Korean production of Billy Elliot—often called the “miracle boys”—will reunite on a single stage.
Producer Shinshicompany said it will present the 2nd Homecoming Day on the 21st, bringing together the first- through fourth-generation Billys for a special program. The afternoon performance will feature the fourth-generation Billys alongside the Michaels, while the evening show will spotlight the first- through third-generation Billys.
The event marks the 16-year journey of the Korean Billy Elliot production. Organizers say the program will celebrate the growth of the original Billys who helped define an era and introduce a new generation of performers.
Notably, the original Billys will close the day with a final performance alongside their younger colleagues. The boys who captured audiences during the musical’s 2010 Korean premiere have since grown into ballet dancers, actors and professionals across various fields.
Since its 2010 debut in Korea, the production has produced 18 Billys across four seasons; with one first-generation Billy currently overseas, 17 will take part in the reunion. The Homecoming Day lineup includes: 1st Billys (2010–2011) Kim Se-yong, Lee Ji-myeong, Park Jun-hyung and Lim Seon-woo; 2nd Billys (2017–2018) Cheon Woo-jin, Kim Hyun-jun, Seong Ji-hwan, Shim Hyun-seo and Eric Taylor; 3rd Billys (2021–2022) Jeon Kang-hyeok, Lee Woo-jin, Joo Hyun-jun and Kim Si-hoon; and 4th Billys (2026) Kim Seung-ju, Park Ji-hoo, Kim Woo-jin and Jo Yoon-woo. First-generation Billy Jung Jin-ho will be absent due to overseas commitments.
The role of Billy is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a young performer. Casting demands extend beyond physical suitability: candidates must master several dance styles and perform them flawlessly before their voices change. The countless hours these performers have devoted to their craft come alive onstage, earning thunderous applause and cheers.
For the special program, all 17 participating Billys will join together for “Electricity,” and four Michaels will perform “Expressing Yourself.” After those numbers, the cast will offer a special stage greeting to the audience.
Billy Elliot, the production that introduced these once-in-a-lifetime performers, runs through July 26 at Blue Square Woori Bank Hall in Yongsan, Seoul. gioia@sportsseoul.com
