[By Jeong Ye-won, Sports Today] A current sommelier has spoken out about the wine controversy at Mosu.
Sommelier Eun Dae-hwan posted a lengthy message on social media on the 6th about the alleged wine swap at Mosu.
As a fellow industry professional, he said he wished the matter would stop circulating. He added that the account largely matches unofficial, secondhand reports he has heard, and therefore he believes the core facts are accurate. He also commented on Chef Ahn Seong-jae’s apology.
Eun said he was surprised by how quickly personal speculation spread, and he acknowledged that Mosu — given its reputation — did provide inappropriate service in this instance. He noted, however, that in hospitality settings staff can become flustered and that unexpected mistakes sometimes occur.
Regarding the sommelier involved, Eun suggested the pressure of working at Mosu — a restaurant aiming to reclaim three-star status — may have led to a misjudged response. He said the employee is likely still shaken and urged Chef Ahn to reassure and support his staff so they can work steadily and serve with confidence.
Last month an online post claimed that a guest’s wine had been switched at Mosu, the fine-dining restaurant run by Chef Ahn Seong-jae. Mosu quickly apologized, saying it failed to provide clear guidance and a full explanation to the guest. The controversy persisted, and on the 6th Chef Ahn published a detailed apology outlining the incident.
Eun Dae-hwan is a former head sommelier at the global hotel brand The Ritz-Carlton.
