[Sports Today reporter Im Si-ryeong] With singer Hong Seo-beom and Jo Gap-kyung’s son at the center of an affair controversy, a former daughter-in-law has renewed her public accusations.
On the 8th, the former daughter-in-law identified only as A posted on her social media: After the media published the story, people around me kept asking, \”Did they contact you?\” When I said no, they were angrier than I was. I didn’t even expect anything, so I said I was okay, she wrote.
A added, \”They’ve been shameless from start to finish and don’t think they did anything wrong. I’m certain they’ll never reach out. Why? Because these aren’t ordinary people.\” She also said the family would point to child support as proof, claiming \”I paid child support\” as if that settles everything.
A is the former daughter-in-law of Hong Seo-beom and Jo Gap-kyung. She says she married her ex-husband, identified as B, in 2024 and became pregnant that same year. She alleges B had an affair during their marriage and left, forcing her to give birth alone. She claims her in-laws, Hong and Jo, stood by and that she never received promised alimony or child support.
The matter is now in court. A sued B for damages, and the trial court found B responsible for the marriage’s collapse, ordering him to pay A 30,000,000 KRW (approximately $22,500) in damages and 800,000 KRW (approximately $600) per month in child support. A appealed, arguing the child support amount is insufficient.
As the controversy grew, Hong and Jo said they had refrained from intervening in their adult son’s divorce out of respect for his privacy and autonomy. They nevertheless bowed their heads and acknowledged a shortcoming as parents for not monitoring their child’s misconduct more closely.
After Jo appeared on MBC’s variety show Radio Star, A — who had posted critical messages about the family before the broadcast — reacted sharply: \”You laughed on TV and carried on as if nothing happened for three years. Pay for that. I’m suffocating every day,\” she wrote.
Radio Star aired Jo’s segment without edits, drawing criticism for appearing out of step with public sentiment. The show’s official YouTube channel currently has no highlight clip featuring Jo.
Meanwhile, the appeal hearing between A and B is scheduled for the 23rd at the Daejeon Family Court, Family Division 1.
