[Sports Today reporter Song O-jung] Broadcaster Kim Seong-ju revealed he underwent surgery for health reasons during the Miss Trot Season 4 competition.
On the April 2 broadcast of TV Chosun’s Miss Trot 4 — Talk Concert, the show shared behind-the-scenes stories from the final round.
The Season 4 finale drew a peak rating of 18.1%. Kim noted that the figures even climbed to 18.4% when he teased, “I’ll reveal it in 60 seconds,” praising the contestants for their efforts.
Jang Yoon-jung laughed and asked, “Are you saying that’s because of me?” prompting laughter from the panel.

While discussing the most memorable moments, the cast brought up a running superstition: when Kim Seong-ju cries, that contestant tends to do well. Kim said he first cried during Lim Young-woong’s performance of “A Story About a Couple in Their 60s,” and that he often tried to hold back afterward because his emotions could affect the contestants.
He went on to reveal that, when Jeok-woo performed, he was actually in poor health and had to have surgery. “I had the operation — they removed my kneecap,” he said, a disclosure that stunned the room.
Kim added that he’d been feeling low and questioning whether he should keep working while his body suffered. Watching Jeok-woo’s stage, however, moved him to tears. “It was very moving,” he said.
