Ihye-seong’s Journey: From Announcer to 9th Place in ‘Cheonha Jeppang’ – What We Learned!

[Sports Today reporter Kim Tae-hyung] Announcer-turned-broadcaster Lee Hye-seong reflected on finishing ninth on MBN’s competition series ‘Cheonhajeppang.’

On the 31st, Lee wrote on her social media that this was the hardest I have worked on any show since I debuted in broadcasting. I don’t entirely know why. Maybe because the theme was bread, I really, really wanted to do well, she added.

She said watching the seasoned chefs she faced on ‘Cheonhajeppang’ stirred a lot of self-doubt, but she believes feeling inferior in a field actually signals a genuine desire to improve. People don’t feel inferior toward those who succeed in areas they don’t care about, she wrote. For someone still growing, the chance to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with master bakers is an experience that will shine like a guiding star in her life.

Lee also noted that she had hoped to make the top 10, and, almost unbelievably, she finished ninth. To everyone who cheered for me, I hope you keep enjoying lots of delicious bread, she said in closing.

Lee entered MBN’s ‘Cheonhajeppang’ under the nickname \”the baking announcer.\” She told viewers she earned a baking technician certificate roughly five years ago. She doesn’t run a storefront bakery, but she does operate a small workshop where she bakes.

While searching for healthier bread options, she discovered sourdough and resolved to master its delicate tang herself. From that point she sought out experts, took classes, and even traveled to San Francisco — widely regarded as a sourdough mecca — just for baking research.

Judges praised the sourdough she presented, made with a levain starter she has cultivated for five years. She did not advance to the top seven and concluded the competition in ninth place.
