A former American teacher is drawing attention after reports that she makes a substantial income by offering nothing more than hugs.
On the 6th (local time), the New York Post reported that 51-year-old Ella Love, who taught art in a public school for 13 years, began feeling intense pressure around eight years ago from student management and job-related stress. While looking for ways to regain her emotional balance, she discovered professional cuddling services, completed roughly 430,000 KRW (approximately $322.50) in training, left teaching and now works as a professional cuddler.
She typically works about three hours a day and charges 220,000 KRW (approximately $165.00) an hour. Based on that rate and schedule, her annual income is roughly 137,000,000 KRW (approximately $102,750.00).
Many of her clients are married, middle-aged men with stable finances. Love said many people feel lonely because they lack sufficient emotional connection with their spouse. She added that these clients don’t want to give up their families, but they do need warm interaction and honest conversation.
She stressed that she operates with clear boundaries and screens out anyone with inappropriate intentions during pre-session consultations. She described clients’ physical reactions as natural human responses and said she manages those moments professionally — by coaching breathing or adjusting posture to maintain a calm, professional atmosphere.
Some clients reportedly have traits on the autism spectrum that make eye contact or physical touch difficult. Love emphasized that the work is less about contact than about building trust and an emotional bond that allows people to express their feelings openly.
