Gunpo City Central Library opened the smart library on April 23 on the second-floor plaza at Geumjeong Station. The new facility gives residents a convenient way to access books anytime and anywhere.
Funded through a resident participatory budget, the smart library provides contactless borrowing and returns 24 hours a day, year-round. It holds roughly 500 titles—new releases and bestsellers among them—so people who can’t visit during normal hours can still borrow freely.
Any city library cardholder can use the smart library. Instructions are available on the library’s website and on the smart library kiosk; other inquiries should be directed to the Central Library.
With the Geumjeong Station opening, the city now operates two smart libraries. The Dangjeong Station location, which opened in December 2023, serves roughly 400 users per month and has significantly expanded access for residents living far from public libraries.
Mayor Ha Eun-ho said, “The Geumjeong Station smart library lays the groundwork for residents to access books more easily in their daily lives. We will continue to expand community-focused reading infrastructure so everyone can enjoy reading conveniently.”
City officials expect the new Geumjeong Station smart library to broaden reading opportunities, remove time and location barriers, and help advance the local reading culture.
