SPOTV News’ Kim Won-gyeom reports that the footage aired on ‘X’s Private Life’ frames Yu Kkaetip as a mother in every respect.
Episode 6 of TV Chosun’s reality series ‘X’s Private Life’ airs at 10 p.m. on April 21. The show brings Choi Go-gi (Choi Beom-gyu), who has been divorced for seven years, into the studio. He and hosts Kim Gura, Jang Yoon-jung, Jung Kyung-mi and Cheon Nok-dam watch the daily life of his ex-wife, Yu Kkaetip (Yu Yerin), after their separation.
As Choi watches, the recorded segments show Yu deeply focused on her career as a beauty creator, where she has amassed 320,000 subscribers. Jang Yoon-jung admires her appearance, saying, “She’s so pretty—she reminds me of Son Tae-young.” Yu then looks back on her relationship with Choi, her premarital pregnancy and marriage, and life raising their daughter Sol-ip, before explaining what sparked their conflicts.
Choi lowers his head and admits, “Looking back, I feel sorry.” Yu adds, “We divorced the day after a big fight. I walked away with nothing—no division of assets,” a revelation that draws more questions. Kim Gura calls it “a difficult decision for a woman,” and Choi outlines the circumstances that left him feeling he had no other option at the time.
Yu then lifts the veil on her current, private life. Jang Yoon-jung quips that Yu’s studio apartment looks like the room of a recently discharged soldier, prompting laughter. She shows how she often subsists on instant noodles and microwaved rice and sometimes leaves the house having washed only her bangs—a half-ready look that leaves Choi visibly unsure how to respond. Later, she surprises the panel by heading off to work at a café.
Yu explains, “Since the divorce, my highest monthly YouTube earnings were 70 million KRW (52,500 USD) and my lowest was 0 KRW (0 USD). With such unpredictable income from YouTube, it was difficult to provide steady child support, so I started a part-time job to secure a fixed income.” Choi says, “I feel sorry—she seems to be working so hard for Sol-ip,” and the hosts offer heartfelt support to the two parents whose lives center on their daughter.
After finishing her shift, Yu video-calls her daughter and breaks down in tears. Viewers are left to wonder why she cried and how Choi reacted as he watched the moment unfold.
The intimate, post-divorce daily life of Yu Kkaetip—a mother who continues to live for her daughter despite the distance—will be featured on episode 6 of TV Chosun’s ‘X’s Private Life,’ airing April 21 at 10 p.m.
