A large South Korean-flagged tanker is attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz, according to reports.
Bloomberg reported May 20 that the vessel is HMM’s Universal Winner, bound for Ulsan.
Bloomberg said the Universal Winner loaded Kuwaiti crude and this morning began broadcasting signals indicating it had entered Iran-approved transit lanes south of Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz.
Earlier the same day, two large Chinese tankers also attempted to transit the waterway.
Bloomberg added that a successful transit by the Universal Winner would mark the first time a South Korean tanker has passed through the Strait. If all three vessels complete the passage, it would be the busiest day for large-tanker transits through the Strait since the outbreak of war.
