“We Will Respond Decisively to Enemy Actions”
Foreign outlets reported that Iran’s military met with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Moztaba Khamenei and received new directives on conducting military operations.
Reuters reported on the 10th (local time), citing the semi-official Fars news agency, that Ali Abdollahi, commander of Hatam al-Anbiya (the Iranian Joint Chiefs of Staff), briefed Khamenei on the armed forces’ readiness posture. Fars did not specify when the meeting took place.
Abdollahi said, “Iran’s military is prepared to respond to any actions by U.S. and Zionist (Israel) enemies,” adding, “If the enemies make a mistake, Iran will respond swiftly, forcefully and decisively.”
More than two months into the war, Iran has not publicly declared an official position on the ceasefire memorandum (MOU) proposed by the United States. Iran’s military has repeatedly warned it will respond strongly if the U.S. launches further attacks.
According to the state-run IRNA news agency, Army spokesman Mohammad Akraminia warned, “If the enemy again miscalculates and invades our territory, it will face an unexpected response,” adding, “That response will include new weapons, new tactics and new battlefields.”
More than two months after his selection as Supreme Leader, Khamenei has made no public appearance and released no audio. On the 7th, President Masoud Pezeshkian said he had met with Khamenei; that was the first time Iranian authorities publicly confirmed a meeting with the Supreme Leader’s senior officials.
