‘Korean Private Broadcasting Day’ ceremony and roundtable with CEOs of nine regional broadcasters
Kim Jong-cheol, chair of the Broadcasting, Media and Communications Commission, pledged concrete policy support to strengthen the competitiveness of regional private broadcasters, saying the commission will reform outdated regulations sensibly and expand support for content production.
The commission said Kim attended the ‘2026 Korean Private Broadcasting Day’ ceremony at the Ulsan Exhibition & Convention Center on the 17th and held a meeting with the chiefs of nine private broadcasters to discuss key industry issues and development plans.
Participants included SBS and the regional broadcasters in Gwangju, Ulsan, Jeonju, Jiwon and Cheongju, as well as KNN, TBC and TJB.
At the meeting, the commission outlined its main proposals and priorities on regulation and industry promotion for local broadcasting, and listened to the broadcasters’ requests and challenges.
In his congratulatory remarks, Kim called private broadcasters “a pillar that has recorded local life and upheld the values of democracy,” and said the commission would support policies to boost competitiveness, including sensible reform of outdated rules and increased backing for content production.
The ‘Korean Private Broadcasting Day’ ceremony is an annual event organized by the Korea Private Broadcasting Association since 2006 to honor outstanding programs and contributors to broadcasting. The association was founded following the nationwide rollout of private terrestrial broadcasting in 2003.
