Korean Box Office Breakthrough: ‘The King and the Clown’ Surpasses 16 Million Viewers!

[Sports Seoul | Reporter Yoon Dong-eon] The film The Man Who Lives with the King has surged past 16 million admissions, vaulting to No. 2 on South Korea’s all-time box office chart.
According to the Korea Integrated Ticketing System on the 11th, the film has drawn 16,283,970 viewers as of its 67th day in release. That total surpasses the final tally for the 2019 hit Extreme Job, which finished with 16,260,000 admissions. The all-time box office leader remains Myeongryang with 17,610,000 admissions.
Directed by Jang Hang-jun, the period drama is set at Cheongryeongpo in 1457. It follows a village chief who chooses exile to save his community and a young, deposed king. The cast includes Yoo Hae-jin, Park Ji-hoon, Yoo Ji-tae, Jeon Mi-do and Ahn Jae-hong.
Distributor Showbox said the film continues to attract steady audiences even as it enters its 10th week in theaters.
The gap with No. 1 Myeongryang stands at roughly 1,330,000 admissions, and industry observers are watching to see whether the film can sustain momentum and overtake the record. hellboy321@sportsseoul.com
