After the U.S. and Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Heggses declared the United States had secured a decisive victory over Iran.
At a Pentagon briefing on the 8th (local time), Heggses said the military campaign against Iran, dubbed Operation Grand Fury, delivered a decisive outcome.
He said the Defense Department’s role is complete for now and called the ceasefire a real opportunity to pursue lasting peace.
Heggses warned, however, that U.S. forces will remain on alert and could resume strikes against Iran if the truce breaks down.
He also said Iran would hand over enriched uranium to the United States — and if Tehran refuses, U.S. forces would take custody of it themselves.
Joint Chiefs Chairman Dan Kane said U.S. forces had achieved their military objectives in Iran and emphasized that the ceasefire is temporary; forces will stay prepared to resume operations as needed.
