On the 7th (local time), the deadline day for talks with Iran, President Donald Trump ramped up pressure with a series of hard-line statements.
Trump posted on Truth Social: “Tonight an entire civilization will disappear and never be able to return. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will.”
Earlier, Trump set the talks’ deadline at 8 p.m. Eastern on the 7th and warned that if no agreement is reached, he would target Iran’s energy infrastructure — including power plants — and key infrastructure such as bridges.
“But if a complete, sweeping regime change occurs and smarter, less radical people take charge, something surprisingly revolutionary might happen,” he said. “Who knows?”
Analysts said the comments left room for a deal by suggesting U.S. military action could remove Iran’s current leadership and bring a new negotiating partner to the table.
“Tonight we will witness one of the most important moments in the long, complex history of the world,” he added. “The 47 years of exploitation, corruption, and death will finally end.”
“God bless the great people of Iran!” Trump concluded.
