On April 7 (local time), the day Iran’s negotiation deadline expired, President Donald Trump intensified his rhetoric, warning, “Tonight an entire civilization could disappear and never be restored.”
Reuters and other outlets reported Trump posted on his own platform, Truth Social, writing, “I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will.”
He added, “However, if a complete, all-out regime change occurs and smarter, less radical people take charge, something astonishingly revolutionary might happen. Who knows?”
The comments were interpreted as leaving open the possibility of negotiations if U.S. military action removed Iran’s current leadership and new figures capable of negotiating emerged.
Trump wrote that “tonight we will witness one of the most important moments in the long, complicated history of the world,” and said “the exploitation, corruption and death that have lasted 47 years will finally end.” He closed the post with, “May God bless the great people of Iran!”
