A new poll released April 2 shows public support in the United States for military action against Iran has fallen to 34%, down 7 percentage points from the opening days of the campaign.
CNN, working with polling firm SSRS, surveyed 1,201 adults March 26–30 (local time) and reported a margin of sampling error of ±3.2 percentage points. The poll found 34% of respondents support U.S. military action against Iran.
That marks a 7-point decline from the 41% who supported action in a poll conducted Feb. 28–March 1, immediately after the conflict began.
Sixty-six percent of respondents opposed the war, including 43% who said they strongly oppose it — a 12-point increase from the earlier survey.
When asked whether President Donald Trump has a clear plan to resolve the Iran crisis, 67% said he does not.
Only 29% said the campaign in Iran is worth U.S. casualties and the government’s financial burden.
Support for Trump’s role as commander in chief stood at 33%, down 8 points from the level recorded immediately after the operation to arrest Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
Seventy-one percent opposed approving 200 billion USD (approximately 266.7 trillion KRW) in spending to finance the Iran campaign.
Sixty-eight percent also opposed deploying ground troops.
Views on the Iran campaign split sharply along party lines.
Ninety-four percent of Democrats and 74% of independents opposed the campaign, while just 28% of Republicans said they opposed it.
In a national address earlier, President Trump said core strategic objectives in the Iran campaign were nearing completion and warned of an “extremely powerful” strike against Iran in the next two to three weeks.
