President Donald Trump said constructive talks with Iran were underway and signaled a willingness to halt strikes. Iran, however, raised the stakes, with a commander on state television warning, “We’ll hit you so hard your dentures will fly out of your mouth.”
On March 24 (local time), a senior Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander made the threat on live TV. Abdollahi, commander of the IRGC’s Khatam al-Anbiya headquarters, vowed, “We will deploy a new secret weapon to end the enemy’s operations.” The IRGC-linked Fars news agency also denied any contact between the U.S. and Iran.
After Trump demanded that Iran reopen the Strait of Hormuz and threatened strikes on power infrastructure, Iranian commanders and officials issued consecutive warnings over two days. In a response, the IRGC said, “They attacked schools and hospitals, but we did not retaliate,” and warned, “If they attack power plants, we will strike power plants in countries that host U.S. bases” — a threat that could encompass most countries across the Middle East.
Esmail Sagheb Esfahani, Iran’s vice president for energy optimization and strategic management, wrote on X that the “Strait of Hormuz game” put enormous pressure on President Trump and forced him to issue a 48-hour ultimatum. He added that the next step — destroying key power and water infrastructure in Israel and elsewhere in the region — would increase that pressure.
Iranian outlets also criticized Trump’s threat to destroy infrastructure. Nour News, affiliated with Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, called the threat “an explicit admission of war crimes and a sign of desperation.”
