[Sports Today reporter Lim Si-ryeong] Yoo Yeon-seok, fronting SBS’s Friday-Saturday drama Shin I-rang Law Office, exposed the ugly truth behind a trainee’s fatal fall in a chapter that delivered both exhilarating catharsis and a poignant emotional payoff for viewers.

On March 22, Nielsen Korea reported that the fourth episode of Shin I-rang Law Office posted a nationwide rating of 9.1% and 9.3% in the Seoul metropolitan area. The episode hit a peak minute rating of 11.3%, a series high, extending the show’s steep upward momentum. The series led the Saturday mini-series slot and confirmed strong audience buzz. The key 20–49 demo registered 2.6%, peaking at 3.34%, ranking first among all Saturday broadcasts.

In the episode, Shin I-rang (Yoo Yeon-seok) unmasked the shocking identity of the person responsible for driving high school student Kim Soo-ah (Oh Ye-ju) to her death.

Shin zeroed in on prime suspect composer Ko Jong-seok (Jung Si-heon). After Kim Soo-ah’s phone signal pinged near Ko’s home, Shin slipped into the vicinity and uncovered decisive evidence that Ko had appropriated one of her original songs. He then overheard Ko, enraged on the phone, referring to someone else who knew about Soo-ah’s composition—prompting Shin to fear for Soo-ah’s closest fellow trainee, Emma (Cheon Young-min).

At the same time, Han Na-hyun (Esom) was independently closing in. She uncovered a pattern of troubling incidents in Ko’s past, including repeated copyright disputes and false-accusation claims. Though she questioned how Shin had obtained some of his unusually specific information, she supported his pursuit of the truth. Crucially, Han obtained an audition score sheet that became the smoking gun: with the final approaching, Soo-ah—then a top contender—had to disappear for Emma to secure one of the seven debut slots, making Emma the primary beneficiary.

Shin staged a calculated sting, posing as a protector and deliberately handing Emma a stun gun with its battery removed. It was a final test to determine whether Emma was a vulnerable victim or the perpetrator. When Emma attacked and revealed her true colors, Shin—who had anticipated the move—was able to elicit a confession. The confession revealed a brutal motive: Emma resented Soo-ah’s talent and tenacity. After watching Soo-ah smile despite being told she was excluded from the agency’s audition, Emma’s jealousy boiled over and she shoved her off the roof. Distorted inferiority and ambition led to an irreversible tragedy.

Officer Yoon Bong-su (Jeon Seok-ho), who had been staking out the scene, clumsily but enthusiastically played the part of a detective and arrested Ko on the spot as he attempted to flee, providing a satisfying beat of justice. Han Na-hyun, who had been representing Glory Entertainment, drew a firm line—refusing to aid a killer—and worked to prevent any further crimes by Emma, completing an unofficial collaboration with Shin. The case closed with fitting consequences.

After the arrests, Shin located Kim Soo-ah’s mother (Jo In) to honor the girl’s last wish. The mother, whom Soo-ah had believed abandoned her, had actually left Soo-ah with her grandmother after facing the threat of blindness from viral keratitis. With the misunderstanding cleared, Soo-ah—who had registered as an organ donor while alive—had her preserved cornea donated to her mother. Shin handled the legal work as her attorney. After the transplant, the mother regained her sight and vowed to live for both of them. With her name cleared and her mother’s vision restored, Soo-ah was finally able to rest in peace.

In the episode’s final moments, Shin I-rang’s arc took a decisive turn and the series teased the next case. After encountering a male ghost who had died in a mysterious attack, Shin no longer panicked or denied the supernatural; he calmly introduced himself—\”I’m your lawyer, Shin I-rang\”—signaling his full acceptance as a lawyer for ghosts. Meanwhile, Han Na-hyun took on a case involving a wife acquitted of killing her husband—who, in a twist, turns out to be Shin’s new ghost client. The two attorneys are set to collide over the same case, raising anticipation for their next round of truth-seeking chemistry.

Shin I-rang Law Office airs Fridays and Saturdays at 9:50 p.m.
