[Sports Today Reporter Lim Si-ryeong] ‘Shinbyeong 4: Sabotage’ returns armed with sharp laughs and keenly relatable moments.

ENA has officially greenlit a fourth season of its Monday–Tuesday drama ‘Shinbyeong’ and has begun principal photography.

Based on the mega-hit anime of the same name, ‘Shinbyeong’ is a hyper-realistic military comedy that follows a recruit from a privileged background who enlists among a wildly diverse cast of characters — from the noble to the notorious and the outright eccentric. Its buoyant humor, grounded in episodes that hit emotional truths, has resonated across genders and generations, earning strong affection in every season.

In ‘Shinbyeong 4: Sabotage,’ the story picks up with Park Min-seok (Kim Min-ho) after his promotion to sangbyeong, launching a turbulent second act of military life full of new dilemmas. What he assumed would be a straightforward path suddenly unravels when a mysterious recruit and a new battalion commander arrive, igniting an intense Act Two. The season also teases the return of Choi Il-gu (Nam Tae-woo), who left the unit in tears last season and comes back as an NCO, while Moon Bitnari (Kim Yo-han) faces an ace as her successor. Director Min Jin-ki, who helped pioneer the show’s unique \”military content\” genre, reunites with comedy stalwart writer Yoon Ki-young, and Kim Dan, a writer on Season 1, joins the team — a creative lineup that raises expectations.

The returning ensemble — Kim Min-ho, Kim Dong-jun, Oh Dae-hwan, Nam Tae-woo, Lee Sang-jin, Jo Jin-se, Lee Chung-gu, Jeon Seung-hoon, Kim Yo-han and Lee Soo-ji — promise sharper, more defined character work this season. New additions Lee Hyun-kyun and Lee Won-jeong are expected to inject fresh energy and escalate the comedy.

Kim Min-ho returns as Park Min-seok, now wearing the sangbyeong rank and occupying a senior position in his squad. What he anticipated would be smooth sailing becomes fiercely competitive with the arrival of unusual new recruits. After a hapless rookie period, Park Min-seok has matured into a sangbyeong responsible for his squad, and viewers will be eager to see how he rises to the challenge. Kim Dong-jun, who previously played a beloved star, returns as Private Jeon Se-gye — a consummate soldier who earns the affection of his seniors. Oh Dae-hwan is expected to deliver another strong turn as the unit’s human \”vitamin\” Jo Baek-ho, while Nam Tae-woo’s comeback as NCO Choi Il-gu is poised to be a scene-stealer. Lee Sang-jin portrays the awkward but warm squad leader Oh Seok-jin; Jo Jin-se plays No Hee-jung; Lee Chung-gu is Kim Sang-hoon; Jeon Seung-hoon appears as Im Da-hye; Kim Yo-han takes on Private Moon Bitnari, the 2nd Battalion’s classic underdog; and Lee Soo-ji plays Park Min-joo, Park Min-seok’s older sister and a soldier through and through. Fans are keen to see the founding ‘Shinbyeong’ members deliver consistent performances.

The newcomers set to shake up the unit also add intrigue. Lee Hyun-kyun takes on the role of Byun Hyuk-jin, a battalion commander committed to change and innovation. Lee Won-jeong plays Kim Hyun-wook, Park Min-seok’s boot-camp peer and a mysterious new recruit. Their arrivals hint at a major shake-up for the unit.

Meanwhile, ENA’s new Monday–Tuesday drama ‘Shinbyeong 4: Sabotage’ is slated to air in the second half of 2026 and will be available on KT Genie TV.
