[Sports Today reporter Lim Si-ryeong] Dune: Part 3 has locked in a domestic release for December 2026 and has released its first trailer and a set of character posters.
The action blockbuster follows Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), who inherits absolute power and chooses to confront an unavoidable destiny that propels him into a vast, brutal war. Based on Frank Herbert’s 1965 sci-fi novel, Denis Villeneuve reinvented the Dune saga with Dune (2021) and Dune: Part 2 (2024). The franchise has now grossed $1.125 billion worldwide (approximately 1.5 trillion KRW) and taken home eight Academy Awards, confirming both its critical acclaim and box-office might. The series has captivated global audiences with its breathtaking visuals, epic scale, imposing direction, and star-studded cast, while domestically it has built a fervent fandom—often called “Dune superfans”—that has offered steadfast support.
Poised to deliver the series’ sweeping conclusion, Dune: Part 3 will arrive in theaters in Korea in December 2026 and has already generated buzz with its first trailer and nine character posters. The trailer opens on a tender moment as Paul and Chani (Zendaya) name an unborn child, then jumps 17 years forward to show Paul as Muad’Dib on the cosmic throne. As recurring wars and upheaval unfold, Paul’s prescient vision elevates him beyond mere political power, making him the fulcrum of struggles over politics, faith, and authority—raising the film’s stakes. A striking beat in the trailer finds Paul with cropped hair and an icy expression declaring, “I’m not afraid to die,” while Chani appears in opposition—hinting at a dramatic shift in their relationship. Villeneuve says this installment will heighten the action and tension and deliver a more forceful conclusion to the saga.
The newly released character posters distill the determination of the figures who will decide the fate of the universe. They feature Timothée Chalamet as Paul—now corrupted by absolute power—and Zendaya as Chani, who loves Paul but ultimately stands against him. Returning cast members Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Javier Bardem add weight to the ensemble. Jason Momoa, who made a memorable exit as Duncan in the first film, returns, sparking excitement among fans. New additions Isaac de Bankolé and Robert Pattinson—whose striking look signals a bold new villain—further expand the film’s character dynamics and conflicts.
One of 2026’s most anticipated releases, Dune: Part 3 opens this December.
