[Point Economy] Busan’s Gijang County has awarded a military merit medal to the family of a Korean War veteran, recognizing his noble sacrifice.
On February 10, Gijang County officials announced that they had conducted a medal presentation ceremony on February 6 to honor the late Kwon Jung-yeol’s service to the nation during the Korean War.
This ceremony was part of the “Korean War Military Merit Medal Recovery Project,” an initiative spearheaded by the Ministry of National Defense and the Army.
Kwon Jung-yeol, who served with the 5th Security Battalion during the Korean War, was posthumously awarded the medal for his dedication and valor. However, he had not received the honor during his lifetime.
At the ceremony, Kwon’s son, Kwon Tae-young, accepted the medal on behalf of the family.
“I’m deeply moved and proud that my father’s sacrifice is being remembered and honored with this medal,” Kwon Tae-young said at the ceremony. “I’m grateful for this meaningful tribute to his service.”
Gijang County Mayor Jeong Jong-bok remarked, “It’s heartening to see this medal, which should have been presented over seven decades ago, finally reach its rightful recipient. We remain committed to enhancing our support and respect for veterans and their families.”
