Set to debut on March 6 (Friday), “Monthly Boyfriend” is a romantic comedy that follows Mi Rae (Ji Soo), a webtoon producer worn down by real-life pressures, as she dives into virtual dating simulations to fulfill her romantic fantasies. The show’s title doubles as the name of the in-story virtual dating subscription service, offering dream dates in a digital realm. This unique blend of a relatable office worker’s daily grind with the concept of ‘subscribing to virtual love’ promises an exhilarating romantic journey.

The pairing of Ji Soo, returning as the ‘perfect fit,’ with Seo In Guk, known for his stellar on-screen chemistry, has already sparked intense anticipation. Ji Soo’s bright and down-to-earth persona meshes perfectly with Mi Rae, a character that strikes a chord with everyday life. Seo In Guk, who has consistently delivered sizzling chemistry in romantic roles, is set to showcase a fresh charm. As webtoon producers, the duo is poised to become intriguingly entangled late-night work companions.

Ji Soo steps into the role of Mi Rae, an office worker so consumed by the daily grind that love and relationships have taken a backseat. Released stills capture Mi Rae’s exhausted countenance during her commute, sporting noise-canceling headphones and nodding off – the quintessential image of a typical office worker. Another shot depicts her shivering outdoors in the depths of winter.

As viewers’ curiosity piques about Mi Rae’s dynamic work life, a subsequent image catches the eye: Mi Rae donning the ‘Monthly Boyfriend’ device with an inquisitive expression. Anticipation builds for the virtual dates awaiting Mi Rae in this new digital landscape.

Seo In Guk’s character, Kyung Nam, also ramps up expectations with his multifaceted appeal. As a popular webtoon producer at the studio, he inexplicably becomes a colleague Mi Rae wants to avoid. The released photos show Kyung Nam deeply engrossed in work, exuding an unapproachable ‘workaholic’ vibe. His indifferent gaze towards Mi Rae hints at a subtle tension. However, subsequent images reveal a charmingly disheveled side of Kyung Nam, presenting an endearing contrast to his usual composed demeanor.

Ji Soo shared insights on her character, stating, “Mi Rae is an ordinary young adult striving to live earnestly and find happiness in her own time. I believe she’s a universally relatable character, so I focused on authentically portraying her emotions.” Seo In Guk described Kyung Nam as “a character with a delicate side hidden beneath his stoic exterior,” adding, “There are surprises and humor in store, so I hope viewers eagerly anticipate the intriguing developments between Mi Rae and Kyung Nam.”

Director Kim Jung Sik, at the helm of “Monthly Boyfriend,” emphasized, “The core appeal lies in Mi Rae’s personal growth and the evolution of her relationship with Kyung Nam. We follow Mi Rae, scarred by love in reality, as she navigates the virtual world of ‘Monthly Boyfriend’ to heal and rediscover the courage to love. I believe viewers will deeply resonate with Mi Rae’s emotional journey and naturally find themselves rooting for her throughout.”

Ji Soo and Seo In Guk’s exhilarating romantic comedy, “Monthly Boyfriend,” will be available exclusively on Netflix starting March 6 (Friday).
