The latest episode hit a series-high 11.1% viewership, claiming the top spot in its time slot across all channels for the third consecutive week. It’s also dominating the coveted 20-49 demographic, outperforming even terrestrial networks. The show’s digital content has racked up over 300 million views, cementing its status as a viral sensation.

The series is making waves internationally too, ranking fifth among non-English shows on Netflix’s Top 10 list, as reported by Tudum. It’s cracked the Top 10 in nine countries and regions, including South Korea, Hong Kong, and Vietnam, showcasing its global appeal.

Set against the backdrop of the late ’90s, “Undercover Miss Hong” follows Hong Geum-bo (Park Shin-hye), a savvy 30-something securities investigator who goes undercover as a 20-year-old rookie at a brokerage firm to unravel suspicious financial activities. The show generated buzz even before its premiere, thanks to the star power of fan-favorite Park Shin-hye.

Since its January 17 debut, which pulled in a 3.5% rating, the drama has seen impressive growth. Subsequent episodes hit 3.2% and 7.2%, before smashing through the 9% barrier with its eighth installment, captivating audiences nationwide.

“Undercover Miss Hong” serves up a delightful blend of workplace comedy, female empowerment, and camaraderie, spiced with hilarious power dynamics and snappy dialogue between colleagues and higher-ups.

The core quartet – Hong Geum-bo, Go Bok-hee (Ha Yoon-kyung), Kang No-ra (Choi Ji-soo), and Kim Mi-sook (Kang Chae-young) – share Room 301 in a Seoul dormitory for single working women. Each harboring their own secrets, they form an unlikely bond as they navigate the treacherous waters of Hanmin Securities.

In a standout moment, when Hong faces potential firing over a botched order, the group hatches a scheme to sway public opinion through anonymous online posts. Their jubilant celebration after averting the crisis showcases their heartwarming chemistry, winning over viewers.

The show’s “Avengers” – the ragtag crisis management team at Hanmin Securities – also brings a unique flavor to the series.

Led by the parachuted executive Albert Oh (Jo Han-gyeol), the department includes the ambition-free Manager Bang Jin-mok (Kim Do-hyun) and tech whiz Manager Lee Yong-ki (Jang Do-ha). Once the company’s forgotten stepchild, the team starts to turn heads with Hong’s arrival, inadvertently boosting their performance and shedding their loser image.

These underdogs bond through late-night work sessions and show touching solidarity when Hong faces disciplinary action, secretly eavesdropping outside the meeting room out of concern.

The electric interactions between Hong and her superiors are a highlight. Despite her rookie disguise, Hong struggles to mask her razor-sharp skills and bold attitude. From CEO Shin Jung-woo (Ko Kyung-pyo), who risks exposing her cover, to the constantly antagonistic Research Head Cha Jung-il (Lim Cheol-soo), Hong navigates a minefield of problematic bosses with a poker face and biting comebacks.

Amidst the power plays and witty exchanges, Hong’s rapport with Director Yoon Jae-beom (Kim Won-hae) provides comic relief and genuine warmth.

Recent episodes have ramped up the drama, revealing the identity of the elusive whistleblower “Ye-pi” and introducing the 1997 IMF crisis as a game-changing plot point.

Hong finally unmasks Manager Bang as Ye-pi, but he refuses further cooperation and claims to have no copy of the missing slush fund ledger. As if on cue, the IMF crisis hits, throwing Hanmin Securities into chaos. The company’s attempt to cook the books for a government bailout is thwarted by Hong’s intervention.

The ethical tug-of-war between Hong and Bang over the accounting fraud has viewers divided. Hong can’t stomach Chairman Kang Pil-beom’s (Lee Deok-hwa) corrupt practices, while Bang fears for employees who might end up on the street without company support. This moral dilemma adds depth to the narrative.

As the series hurtles towards its conclusion, expect revelations from every character – from the enigmatic CEO Shin and the ambitious embezzler Go Bok-hee to the laid-back Albert Oh – adding layers to an already gripping story.

With its addictive plot twists and stellar performances, “Undercover Miss Hong” airs Saturdays and Sundays at 9:10 PM on tvN.
