Actress Kim Jung-hwa has signed on for the theatrical production of “Schumann.”

Set in 1853 Düsseldorf, Germany, “Schumann” is a compelling drama based on the true story of the renowned composer Robert Schumann, his wife Clara Schumann, and the young prodigy Johannes Brahms. The play masterfully explores the artistic ambitions and profound love triangle among these three musical icons, earning critical acclaim during its initial run.

Kim Jung-hwa will portray Clara Schumann, a trailblazing figure who shattered glass ceilings in the male-dominated world of classical music. In this production, Kim aims to bring depth and strength to Clara’s character, showcasing her as an independent artist who fiercely protected her own artistic vision and personal life, rather than being defined solely as a composer’s wife.

With opening night approaching, Kim Jung-hwa shared her enthusiasm: “I’m absolutely thrilled to reconnect with audiences through ‘Schumann,’ a play that beautifully intertwines exquisite music with a heart-wrenching love story. Our stellar cast is pouring their hearts into creating an unforgettable experience, so please mark your calendars!”

In addition to her stage commitments, Kim Jung-hwa has recently renewed her contract with Kenneth Company, her current agency, in a move that underscores their strong professional relationship. This renewal builds upon the solid foundation of trust established since their initial exclusive contract in 2023, paving the way for Kim to expand her artistic horizons with greater stability and diversity.

Since her debut in 2000, Kim Jung-hwa has left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry with hit projects like “New Nonstop” and “Stove League.” The news of her contract renewal and return to the theater stage has sparked considerable buzz about her upcoming projects and career trajectory.

“Schumann,” featuring Kim Jung-hwa, is set to run from February 14 to April 12 at The Good Theater in Seoul’s vibrant Daehakro district.

On a personal note, Kim Jung-hwa married CCM singer-songwriter Yoo Eun-sung in 2013, and the couple has two sons. In a poignant 2023 appearance on the SBS reality show “Same Bed, Different Dreams 2 – You Are My Destiny,” they revealed Yoo’s brain cancer diagnosis. Following this news, Yoo stepped down from his eight-year tenure as a professor in the Practical Music Department at Sungkyul University.
