Korea’s East Coast is a summertime magnet—think deep blue water, bracing waves, and a lineup of beaches that draw crowds from across the country. With surfing culture booming, the coast now offers everything from surf lessons to scenic drives along coastal roads. Here are the standout East Coast beaches you absolutely need on your radar.

Yangyang — Jukdo and Ingu Beaches

Yangyang has earned a reputation as Korea’s surfing mecca. Jukdo and Ingu are especially popular: the waves are consistent and the water stays relatively shallow, so both beginners and seasoned surfers feel right at home.

Hip surf shops, sun-drenched cafés, and buzzy eateries line the sand, giving the area an international beach-town vibe. Spend your day chasing waves, then switch to beachside cocktails and string lights for an effortless evening.

Gangneung — Anmok Beach

Anmok Beach is basically a coffee lover’s dream. The famous “Coffee Street” spills onto the shore, where you can sip expertly brewed cups while watching the waves.

Beyond caffeine, there’s a zipline that skims the water and a scenic seaside promenade—perfect for a leisurely stroll after your espresso. If you want a chill seaside vibe with a caffeine kick, Gangneung is your go-to.

Sokcho Beach

For postcard-ready views, Sokcho Beach tops the list. The Sokcho Eye ferris wheel is an instant landmark—ride it for sweeping panoramas of the open sky and the East Sea.

Afterward, wander the coastal path by Oeongchi Port—known as the Sea Scent Road—to breathe in the ocean breeze and soak up coastal charm.

Samcheok — Jangho Beach

You don’t have to fly to the Mediterranean to find emerald waters—Jangho Beach in Samcheok delivers. Its crescent shoreline has earned it the nickname “Korea’s Naples.”

It’s a prime spot for kayaking and snorkeling, and there’s even a cable car experience to elevate the views. Go early in the season if you want to enjoy it before summer crowds hit.

Goseong — Songjiho Beach

If you crave quiet and a scenic drive, Songjiho Beach in Goseong is made for you. A thick pine forest hugs the back of the white sand, so you’ll get both sea air and the calming scent of pines.

Less crowded than busier beaches, its shallow, clean waters are ideal for families. Walk the Songjiho trail or take a slow coastal drive for some of the most peaceful moments on the East Coast.

Yangyang — Namae Beach

Namae Beach sits along a scenic stretch next to Namae Port, one of Gangwon’s three celebrated harbors. Camping spots hug the shoreline, so you can fall asleep to the rhythm of the waves.

Don’t miss the skywalk at Namae Port for panoramic sea views. Fresh seafood at the nearby harbor also makes this a perfect place to pair camping with a seaside feast.

Samcheok — Maengbang Beach

Maengbang Beach, located on Maengbanghaebyeon-ro 228-239 in Geundeok-myeon, Samcheok, is loved for its wide white sand and shallow waters—great for families and campers alike.

Famous as a BTS album shoot location, Maengbang also boasts dense pine groves and ample parking, making it a top pick for car campers and overnight beach stays.
