[MyDaily = Reporter Cheon Ju-young] As popular European destinations struggle with overtourism and growing friction between visitors and locals, Copenhagen’s city model is standing out for protecting residents’ quality of life while creating a more balanced relationship with outsiders.
Starting in June, Scandinavian Airlines will increase nonstop service from Incheon to Copenhagen to six flights a week, making it easier for travelers from South Korea to visit.
Copenhagen topped the Economist Intelligence Unit’s “World’s Most Livable Cities 2025” list thanks to a sustainable environment and strong urban infrastructure. Its extensive network of bike-only lanes is a central mode of transport for both residents and visitors. The city also reclaimed a once-polluted industrial harbor and turned it into public parks for swimming and kayaking. Neighborhoods like Nordhavn and Carlsberg Byen showcase how historic buildings and modern design can blend—prime examples of green urban planning.

Denmark, one of the world’s oldest monarchies, keeps its royal sites well preserved. In the city center you’ll find Christiansborg Palace, which houses the Danish Parliament; Rosenborg Castle; and Amalienborg Palace, where you can watch the Royal Guard’s changing of the guard. Nyhavn, originally a 17th-century naval housing area, and the canal-side Christianshavn still retain the storybook charm of old Copenhagen.
Practical design and an exciting food scene add to the city’s appeal. You’ll spot functional Scandinavian design at the Radisson Collection Royal Hotel by Arne Jacobsen and at design-run cafés like Café Lille Petra. Food options run from classic open-faced rye sandwiches—smørrebrød—at the Torvehallerne food market to high-end tasting menus at restaurants such as Alchemist.
