Pungdeok-dong’s Rose Tunnel is about to be drenched in the scent of roses.
Pungdeok-dong in Suncheon will host the 5th Pungdeok-dong Rose Festival at the Rose Tunnel on May 16.
Titled Love Rose Festa: The Moment Love Blooms, the event runs from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Set against a tunnel bursting with roses, the festival mixes live performances, hands-on activities, food vendors, and nighttime light displays — all designed for locals to join in.
This year, organizers have amped up interactive offerings and evening programming compared with last year. During the day, visitors can wander sunlit rose-lined paths and soak up the spring vibes. After dark, soft landscape lighting and a special DJ set will turn the celebration into a moodier, more romantic nighttime experience.

Visitors can play a stamp tour as they explore the tunnel, and new participatory programs blend Pungdeok-dong’s local character with the symbolism of roses. Highlights include a Rose Docent, Rose-Colored Life Counseling, and a Rose Bar — all designed to invite curiosity and connection.
A flea market, activity booths, and a variety of food stalls will give residents and tourists plenty to see, taste, and take home. To match May’s Family Month spirit, the festival expanded family-friendly programming so multiple generations can enjoy the day together.

The Pungdeok-dong Rose Festival has become a go-to urban escape, drawing locals and visitors year after year. As Jeollanam-do channels resources into flagship festivals to boost regional tourism, Suncheon is sharpening its festival lineup to highlight local flavor.
This year, Jeollanam-do named the Mokpo Port Festival its top festival and recognized the Goheung Yuzu Festival, Jeongnamjin Jangheung Water Festival, and Jindo Miracle Sea Road Festival as outstanding events. The Suncheon Food & Art Festival, the Gwangyang Plum Blossom Festival, the Boseong Tea Aroma Festival, and the Haenam Minam Festival were also singled out as promising festivals, helping raise the province’s profile as a festival destination.
Officials expect the Pungdeok-dong Rose Festival to energize the local community, boost downtown tourism in Suncheon, and bring new life to nearby businesses.
Kim Cheol-seong, head of Pungdeok-dong, said, “I hope this year’s rose festival gives residents and visitors a chance to feel love and relaxation in their daily lives. I look forward to many people visiting Pungdeok-dong to make special memories among the beautiful roses.”
