Yanggu County in Gangwon wrapped up its flagship spring celebration, the 2026 Youth Yanggu Gomchwi Festival, with audiences turning out in droves.
Held from May 2 through Children’s Day on May 5, the four-day festival welcomed roughly 100,900 visitors—cementing its reputation as Yanggu’s must-attend spring event.
With the slogan Royal Gomchwi, the festival served up a mix of lively attractions and hands-on experiences that left visitors feeling lucky and entertained.
Interactive gomchwi experiences were a hit. Crowds lined up to try gomchwi pizza, gomchwi ice cream, Gomchwi-Yanggu character buns, and gomchwi lattes. Live demonstrations like gomchwi rice-cake pounding and gomchwi wrap tastings also drew enthusiastic participation from kids and adults alike.
Soldiers from nearby military units joined the fun, taking part in activities and sharing warm moments with the local community.
On-site vendors sold gomchwi at prices below typical market rates, drawing steady buyers. This year, organizers responded to changing consumer habits by offering a festival-exclusive 500g small-pack, a welcome option for visitors who prefer buying smaller quantities.
Since the festival overlapped with the Children’s Day holiday, family-friendly programming was abundant. A Kids Adventure Zone featured an air bounce and a bubble playground, keeping little ones happily occupied, while the main stage hosted sing-along family shows like the Choegang Police Mini Special Forces Sing‑along Show and Catch! Tinyping Sing-along Show.
Live performances packed the schedule every day.
The opening day featured an MBC live radio broadcast with Choi Su-ho, Kim Da-bi, Kang Yoo-jin, and Son Heon-su. Day two brought the Youth Yanggu Concert with DJ DOC and Park Da-hye. The third day spotlighted the Royal Gomchwi Concert with Kim Hong-nam and Jang Yoon-jung, and the festival wrapped with a Children’s Day Special Family Concert featuring Oksangdalbit—giving attendees something to enjoy at every age.
Fireworks, a festival highlight, lit the sky on the first and second nights and provided a magical close to the evening festivities.
Organizers also posted food menus and prices ahead of time on the festival website and social media, a move that boosted visitor trust and satisfaction.
Choi Jin-hee, secretary-general of the Yanggu Cultural Foundation, thanked visitors and everyone who helped run the event, and said the foundation will keep enhancing the festival’s appeal with high-quality programming.
