Daegu’s Gunwi County announced on May 4 that it will host the “2026 Rediscovering Gunwi” photo contest to spotlight local attractions and raise the county’s brand profile.
The contest runs through October 30 and is open to all South Korean citizens. Photos can capture any part of Gunwi—culture, festivals, people, attractions, or natural landscapes.
Submissions must be unpublished works taken within the past two years.
There are two categories: general and drone. The general category accepts images from any device—DSLRs, mirrorless cameras, or smartphones—while the drone category is limited to drone-shot photos.
A total of 28 entries will be awarded. In each category, judges will pick one grand prize winner (₩1,200,000, about $900), one top prize winner (₩800,000, about $600), two excellence awardees (₩500,000 each, about $375), and 10 honorable mentions (₩100,000 each, about $75). Winners will receive certificates and cash prizes.
Gunwi County said it will announce the final winners in November following expert judging.
A county official encouraged wide participation, saying they hope the contest will help people rediscover Gunwi’s value through fresh, creative perspectives.
