A new food variety show filmed in Bohol is drawing attention to the Philippines’ stunning nature and vibrant local lifestyle. The Philippine Department of Tourism is pitching the country as a foodie destination where fresh local ingredients meet a rich, diverse culinary scene.

Travel is shifting from ticking off sights to chasing experiences, and “local culinary travel”—savoring a destination through its food—is one of the biggest trends right now.

Surveys from major travel platforms like Trip.com and Booking.com show about 50–60% of Korean travelers are highly interested in food experiences such as food festivals, hotel dining, and street-food tours.

Irwin F. Balanay, head of the Philippine Department of Tourism’s Korea office, said the publication of the Michelin Guide Manila & Cebu 2026 is a turning point for the Philippines as a culinary destination. He added that the country’s food scene, where tradition and modern creativity collide, will offer even more compelling experiences to international visitors.

With Spanish, Chinese, and American influences, the Philippines is a playground for fusion flavors. Its balance of sweet, salty, and sour, along with relatively mild spice levels, also makes it easy to enjoy for many Korean tastes.

Standout bites include crunchy lumpia—Filipino spring rolls—and lechon, the whole roasted pig that’s crackling on the outside and melt-in-your-mouth inside. The tangy soup sinigang and sizzling pork sisig served on a hot plate are other must-tries that capture the country’s unique flavors.

Recently, ube—with its eye-catching purple hue—has been stealing the dessert spotlight, while Philippine mangoes are celebrated worldwide for their sweetness and silky texture. The fried street snack turon, made with banana and jackfruit, also remains a popular grab-and-go treat.

Thanks to its abundant food culture and gorgeous natural backdrops, the Philippines is becoming an even more appealing spot for travelers who want deep culinary experiences, even on a short trip.
