Sangju City in North Gyeongsang Province successfully hosted the 2026 Sangju Bivouac Festival — “Imagination Drenched in Cherry Blossoms” — at Bukcheon Citizens’ Park, a beloved cherry-blossom spot, from April 4 to 5.
Hosted by North Gyeongsang Province and Sangju City and organized by Sangihoe, this fourth annual overnight festival paired the quirky appeal of bivouac camping with a romantic vibe, drawing enthusiastic participants and locals.
Applications were open from Feb. 2 to 23, attracting about 1,700 team entries; 260 teams were selected by lottery.
The Bivouac Festival offered more than basic camping. It was an immersive overnight tourism experience blending nature, live performances, and food.
The weekend began with a participant talent show and continued with high-energy sets from popular artists Wonstein, Siso, Band Girin, and N-bun-ui Il.
After dark, a dazzling multi-lighting show that combined fireworks and lasers amplified the spring-night romance.
Attendees enjoyed trekking along the Bukcheon cherry-blossom trail, live performances, and a lively parade.
Hands-on programs like the Family Love photo contest and a Cherry Blossom Village night market further elevated the festival atmosphere.
The two-day Bivouac Festival, which filled the Bukcheon area with romance, concluded successfully.
It reaffirmed Sangju City’s creative spirit and festival capabilities, leaving visitors eager for next year.
Oh Sang-chul, acting mayor of Sangju, said, “The Bivouac Festival has become Sangju’s signature spring event, helping boost the local economy through overnight tourism. We will continue expanding the festival’s offerings so it can grow into an even more competitive tourist attraction.”
