[MyDaily = Reporter Shim Jae-hee] Christopher Sanchez (30, Philadelphia Phillies), the left-handed standout who helped eliminate South Korea in the 2026 World Baseball Classic quarterfinals, climbed three spots to claim No. 1 on MLB’s starting pitcher power rankings.
Wearing No. 61—the same number Park Chan-ho wore—Sanchez has made 10 starts this season, tossing 64.1 innings while going 5-2 with a 1.82 ERA. He has 80 strikeouts against 14 walks, holds opponents to a .251 batting average, and carries a 1.20 WHIP. His heavy sinker that touches 97 mph (about 156.1 km/h), plus a sharp changeup and slider, have been mashing through lineups. He’s also put together a 29.2-inning scoreless streak and has won his last three starts.
Last year Sanchez made 32 starts, threw 202 innings, went 13-5 with a 2.50 ERA and struck out 212 batters, finishing second in National League Cy Young voting behind Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates. In the 2026 WBC, Sanchez started for the Dominican Republic and dominated South Korea, going five innings with two hits, eight strikeouts, one walk and no runs to help fuel a 10-0, seven-inning mercy-rule win.
Milwaukee’s Jacob Misiorowski jumped five spots to No. 2, while the New York Yankees’ Cam Schlitler slipped one spot to No. 3. Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers fell from No. 1 to No. 4, and Paul Skenes moved up from No. 6 to No. 5.

Chris Sale of the Atlanta Braves dropped three spots to No. 6. The No. 7 through No. 10 positions are newcomers to the top 10: Chase Burns (Cincinnati Reds), Zack Wheeler (Philadelphia Phillies), Dylan Cease (Toronto Blue Jays) and Davis Martin (Chicago White Sox) round out spots seven through ten.
