Lionel Messi (38) will head to the 2026 World Cup in North America.
On May 29 (KST), the Argentine Football Association (AFA) and coach Lionel Scaloni announced the final 26-man roster for the 2026 World Cup in North America. As the reigning champions after their 2022 World Cup victory in Qatar, Argentina will enter the tournament as title holders. Argentina opens Group J on June 16 against Algeria, then faces Austria on June 22 and Jordan on June 27.
The squad includes many of the core players who powered Argentina to the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the 2024 Copa América. Messi (Inter Miami) made the final cut. He had been diagnosed with a hamstring overload due to fatigue ahead of the announcement, but he’ll be appearing at his sixth straight World Cup.
Enzo Fernández (Chelsea), Julián Álvarez (Atlético Madrid), Cristian Romero (Tottenham Hotspur), Lisandro Martínez (Manchester United) and Lautaro Martínez (Inter Milan) were all included.
