Went 1-for-5 with an RBI at home vs. Washington, came up empty in two walk-off chances
Dodgers’ Kim Hye-sung went 0-for-2 in Milwaukee before being lifted for a pinch-hitter
Kim Ha-seong of the Atlanta Braves drove in his second run of the season with a perfectly executed squeeze bunt.
On May 23 (KST), Kim started at shortstop and batted eighth in Atlanta’s home game at Truist Park against the Washington Nationals, finishing 1-for-5 with an RBI.
His season average ticked up slightly from .115 to .129.
Kim’s only hit came on the squeeze. After striking out in the third and flying out in the fifth, he finally produced a hit in his third plate appearance in the seventh inning.
With the game tied 1-1 in the seventh and runners on first and third with one out, Kim laid down a textbook squeeze toward the pitcher. The softly-rolled ball in front of the mound turned into a bunt single.
Washington first baseman Luis García Jr. charged in, fielded the ball and threw home while still wearing his glove, but third-base runner Riley had already touched the plate.
Kim didn’t add another hit. With the score tied 2-2 in the bottom of the ninth and two outs with a runner at second, he grounded out to third. In the 11th inning, tied 4-4 with one out and a runner at second, he struck out, leaving another opportunity on the table.
Atlanta, however, escaped any regret when Chadwick Tromp delivered a walk-off hit to win 5-4, extending the Braves’ winning streak to four games.
Meanwhile, Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Kim Hye-sung started and batted ninth in the road game against the Milwaukee Brewers. He went 0-for-2 and was replaced by a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning with no outs and runners on first and second.
Kim’s average slipped to .264, and the Dodgers fell 1-5.
