[mdtoday = Reporter Kim Gyo-sik] Go Woo-seok, a Triple-A right-hander with the Toledo Mud Hens — the Detroit Tigers’ top affiliate — has delivered a string of steady outings and drawn praise from local broadcasters.
On May 22 at Fifth Third Field in Toledo, Ohio, Go entered in relief in the top of the eighth against the Indianapolis Indians and worked a scoreless inning with one strikeout.
With Toledo leading 5-2, Go retired the side on just 12 pitches. He got Davis Wendzel on a grounder to short, induced a 3-1 grounder to second from Tyler Callihan, and closed the frame by striking out Rafael Flores Jr. with an outside, low curve.
Bally Sports Live’s broadcast team singled out his outing. “He’s been pitching really well since coming back from Double-A,” the crew said, noting that over his last four appearances (eight innings) he’s allowed two hits, no runs and struck out nine. One analyst added that the adjustments he made in Double-A appear to be paying off, praising the improved polish on his pitches.
The appearance extended Go’s scoreless streak to five games since returning to Triple-A and lowered his season ERA to 2.61. Including his Double-A numbers, he sports a 1.50 ERA across 15 appearances. Observers say his ability to limit hits while generating strikeouts is making a major-league call-up increasingly plausible.
