Holds Portugal’s all-time records for most caps and top scorer
Cristiano Ronaldo (41, Al-Nassr) has been named to Portugal’s final squad for the 2026 World Cup in North America, putting him on track for a sixth straight World Cup appearance.
Portugal coach Roberto Martínez revealed the 27-player roster on May 20 (Korea Standard Time) at the Cidade do Futebol in Oeiras, Portugal.
The headline name is, unsurprisingly, Ronaldo.
He is a living legend of Portuguese football, holding the national team records for both appearances and goals (226 caps, 143 goals).
Ronaldo made his World Cup debut at the 2006 tournament in Germany and has featured at every edition since, including the most recent tournament in Qatar — five consecutive World Cups so far.
Across those five tournaments he has played 22 matches and scored eight goals.
Born in February 1985, this North American World Cup is widely expected to be his last.
As one of the contenders for the title, Portugal’s roster is deep beyond Ronaldo. The squad also includes Pedro Neto (Chelsea), Gonçalo Ramos (Paris Saint-Germain), Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United), João Neves and Vitinha (both PSG), among other key players.
Portugal will open the tournament in Group K next month, facing the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uzbekistan and Colombia.
