Arsenal’s closest challengers this season, Manchester City, were held to a 1-1 draw by Bournemouth on the morning of May 20 (KST) at Vitality Stadium. The result left City with one match remaining and a 23-9-5 record (78 points), four points behind leaders Arsenal (82), effectively ending City’s hopes of overturning the gap and handing Arsenal the championship.
Having led the table for most of the campaign, Arsenal officially secured the title regardless of the outcome of their final game against Crystal Palace. This is the club’s first Premier League crown since their unbeaten 2003–04 season.
Arsenal had finished as runners-up in each of the past three seasons after surrendering late-season leads: Manchester City pipped them in 2022–23 and 2023–24, and Liverpool took the title last season. This term, Arsenal held steady at the top and prevented a City comeback to secure the trophy.
The Premier League noted that manager Mikel Arteta became the first former Premier League player to win the title as a manager since the competition was reorganized in 1992. Over the years, the league’s champions have been guided by managers such as Ferguson, Guardiola, Mourinho, Wenger, Ancelotti, Conte, Dalglish, Klopp, Mancini, Pellegrini, Ranieri and Slot.
Arteta played for Arsenal from 2011 to 2016, captained the side and won the FA Cup twice as a player. With the Premier League now wrapped up, Arsenal are targeting a double: they will face defending champions Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the 2025–26 UEFA Champions League final on May 30.
