Atlanta climbed back to No. 1 in the rankings released May 18, moving up one spot from the previous list. The Los Angeles Dodgers jumped from No. 3 to No. 2. In the middle of the board, the Philadelphia Phillies made a big seven-spot jump to No. 11. The Chicago White Sox, powered by Japanese slugger Munetaka Murakami’s home runs, surged eight spots to No. 14. The Washington Nationals climbed five spots to No. 16. Meanwhile, the Toronto Blue Jays and Detroit Tigers each fell five places to Nos. 18 and 20, respectively.
