After a tense 2-1 victory over Kiwoom DRX that pushed kt Rolster to 10 wins this season, coach Go Dong-bin—better known by his in-game name “Score”—stressed the need to tighten up fundamentals as the team works through a rough patch.
kt defeated Kiwoom on May 14 at the LCK Arena in LoL Park, Grand Seoul, Jongno-gu, Seoul, in Week 7 of the LCK, taking a 2-1 decision. The win made kt the third team to reach 10 wins this season, trailing only Hanwha Life Esports (11-1) and Gen.G Esports (10-3). kt’s record is now 10-3 with a +11 game differential.
Coach Go called it a hard-fought match but said securing the win was what mattered most, calling the victory valuable for the team.
On his game plan against Kiwoom, Go said the squad’s form hadn’t been great recently, so they emphasized the basics. “We looked dominant in Game 1, but there were a lot of risky moments in the mid game. In Game 2 we got off to a poor start and made bad decisions at times when we could have done better—the composition made it difficult and we lost. For Game 3, draft and bans were crucial, so we focused on that,” he explained.
Asked about the team’s recent inconsistency, Go pointed to the meta. “The meta has pushed teams toward a bottom-focused style, so bans and picks dictate a lot of play. Laning and draft are obviously important—this meta forces head-to-head, skill-on-skill matchups. We need to keep improving in those areas,” he said.
kt’s next test is a matchup with league leader Hanwha Life Esports, who sit at 11-1 after stopping kt’s perfect first round. Go acknowledged Hanwha’s strength but said his priority is fine-tuning his own roster. “Hanwha is a strong team, but we’ll focus on ourselves. We’ll prepare harder than we did today and aim to bring a better performance next match,” he vowed.
